The Energy Score of a certain opportunity (or another type of content) is the high-level indicator of the current activity level of that opp (or the last day of the selected time period) so you know whether further inspection into the Activity by Day is necessary to discover how the score can be improved.

Understanding Your Energy Score
The Energy Score is a calculated percentage of the activity level for a certain opportunity, account, etc. calculated each day, but these daily calculations include consideration of previous activity. This means the current score or score of the last day of the selected period is not only considering that day's activities but its activity AND the activity level as it is changing over time. So if there has been no activity today, you would not have a 0% score, rather, today's score would simply take today's activity level in comparison to past activity and adjust up or down accordingly.
A 100% Energy Score indicates a perfectly healthy opportunity, while 0% would indicate no activity has occurred at all, and all levels in between.
Weighted Importance
IS2 Admins can manage the weight each individual activity carries in the calculation to ensure your Energy Score reflects an accurate level of engagement based on what's important to you. All out of the box activities have a default level of importance, you can see the list and learn more about Managing Energy Score here.
