🚨 Prerequisite 🚨
Before you can report on recurring revenue, be sure you've configured a recurring revenue content calculation.
Recurring Revenue Reports Best Practices
Once you've created a recurring revenue content calculation (the above prerequisite), you can start creating reports on that data just as you can across the Platform. However, there are some things to keep in mind for SaaS reporting to ensure the best possible results.
Recommended Filters
-
Period Start: beginning of the period you want to see, this will determine the beginning of the piece of the contract you want to see
-
Period End: end of the period you want to see, this will determine the end of the piece of the contract you want to see (Example: A contract begins January 1 and ends December 31, you select a period beginning March 1 and ending March 31 to reflect only March within the contract)
Note: We recommend including both Period Start & End as filters so they will be present as columns in your report, however, only one of them needs to have a filter date included (making it an active filter). To include contracts active at the beginning of a period, filter on Period Start, or to include contracts active at the end of a period, filter on Period End.
-
Period Value: The total sum of recurring revenue within the selected period
-
Opportunity Status: Set the opportunity status to Won or Open, depending on the desired report outcome
Period vs. Contract Start & End Dates
It's important to understand the difference between the Contract End/Start and the Period End/Start. In a recurring revenue report, you will use Period Start and Period End to report on parts of the contract dates.
Report Visualizations
You can see in the examples below how recurring revenue is reflected in the different visualizations and the powerful insight you can gain using recurring revenue data reporting.
Be sure you keep these recurring revenue specific configurations in mind when creating your next report.
-
Be sure to use sum from period value.
-
Be sure to filter on period start or end.
-
Select "fields to group by" as a recurring revenue field [in the dropdown option, the field name will be followed by (recurring revenue)].
