Actions provide the ability to assign work to a member of your sales or account management organization. By default, this will assign the action (when it fires) to the owner of the record. This would be the Opportunity owner or Account owner in Salesforce (depending on the type of action).
Part of the power of actions is the flexibility of assignment!
Teams use actions today to improve CRM data entry, assign work to sales admins, give alerts to managers, coordinate next steps with sales engineers or customer success. The use cases are as varied as the assignment rules.
To set the assignment rules, Click Settings in the left nav menu, then click Actions under the Configuration tab in the settings menu. Select an Action. In this example, I selected 'Action Best Practice Leave Behind'. Click on Audience in the Action Setup tab.

Let's walk through some examples of configuring assignment rules:
1. Default Assignment - Owner
This will assign the action (when it fires) to the owner of the object. This would be the opportunity owner or account owner in salesforce (depending on the type of action)

2. Manager
This will assign the action (when it fires) to the manager of the owner of the record. This would be the manager of the Opportunity owner or Account owner in Salesforce (depending on the type of action).

3. Owner + Manager
Actions can be assigned to more than one person! You can assign work to the owner, manager, or all team members.

4. Team Members
This is automatically populated from the opportunity team members and account team members list. Use this to assign an action to the whole team or search for Specific Team Member Roles.

5. Assign by Email
This allows you to assign this action to anyone in your sales organization.
Want to know every time a deal gets to negotiation and has no meetings for a month? Put your name here.

6. Assign by Email Property
This allows you to select any email for a given object (examples we have in production - the SDR that created the deal, the CSM for the deal, the sales engineer for the deal)

7. Send notifications to users
If enabled, choose to send notifications to users by your enabled communication, like Slack or email. If you select "immediately", a notification will be sent to users immediately upon the action being triggered.

These examples are just the start. If you have a piece of work in your sales process you want automated, here's where you start.
